What’s Up These Days?

Hi guys! As you might’ve noticed, I’ve been pretty inactive. There are a couple of reasons. The first one is that I’m trying to get my driver’s license and has been for a loooooong time, but I’m getting close to finishing by now. I know driving tests normally aren’t fun, but I’ve been having severe enough anxiety about it that it’s been affecting my driving and I’ve been seeing a psychologist to deal. I’m still anxious, but it’s getting better.

A second reason is that my computer’s been crashing. It’s not the game. Funny enough, ts3 has never crashed for me, for whatever reason. Rather, my screen would go black and then the entire thing would just… stop. I’ve been able to play despite the crashes, but it was pretty unpredictable how long I’d be able to – it made me bitter and it made me stay away from the game. BoyfriendΒ found out it’s probably because my graphic’s card overheated because of dust, so we cleaned my computer yesterday. The temperature is good now, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’s solved.

For readers of The Year of Mimosa, I’ve got some news. Good, bad, whatevs, it’s up to you. I haven’t been satisfied with the beginning – I didn’t quite know where I was going with it when I started writing, so I quickly ended up not liking it. So! Re-write time. Yes. I’m so sorry. It’s not going to be quite as big an overhaul as the Talented, at all, but I’ll change the sets a bit, give the characters make-overs, and change a couple of things around. Hope you’ll bear with me.

Lastly, I’ve actually bought the Sims 4. I honestly didn’t think it’d happen anytime soon, but I gotta admit that the most recent update and game pack won me over. I’ll have very much fun dressing everybody, regardless of gender, in dresses. Kudos to the Sims-team for making that change. I won’t stop playing ts3, and I don’t feel like doing stories in 4, but I will say that the build mode in 4 is out of this world. Even I can make an aesthetically pleasing house with that. Man it’s good.

So, this was really just a little update for y’all. I’ll try and get back to updating the stories – fingers crossed the crashes are history πŸ™‚

  1. Good luck with your license, Lou! I still don’t have mine because of nerves and anxiety on the day of the test. I’m an excellent driver, just not with a cop, that’s evaluating me, sitting beside me lol

Hmm, I wonder how that rewrite is gonna go πŸ™‚ so good luck on that too!

Sounds like your graphics and/or motherboard are on their way out O_O at least, that’s what the reason was when my PC did that a few years ago.

TS4 is awesome! I can honestly say that I haven’t gone back to TS3 since I got it. But, that’s what happened when TS3 came out lol seems like I can only be loyal to one itteration of the game at a time πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Mags πŸ™‚ I’ve had the same problem – I could’ve been done with it in January, but shit happened and I got super anxious. My psychologist has really helped super much, so I’m starting to feel like I have a chance. Even if I fail on Thursday, I feel I can handle it – boyfriend is at the ready with movies and snacks no matter the outcome! πŸ™‚
I definitely hope it’ll be better πŸ˜‰ I’m pretty happy with what I’ve got so far πŸ™‚
We’re pretty sure that the dust was keeping the graphics card from cooling properly and when it got too hot, it shut off. Boyfriend downloaded a program that showed the temperature and it was way up in the 100 degrees (celsius) – after a good clean-up the temperature is down to 70 πŸ™‚ So far no problems – I hope it stays that way.
That’s totally what happened when I changed from 2-3 as well, but there are parts of 4 I find a tad disappointing – raising babies feels *so* pointless. I want toddlers and I don’t want babies to be objects 😦 Buildmode, however, is so freaking good I could just build and build all day. It just runs so well, too. Still, I’ll be doing stories in 3 – I just think the artstyle of the game suits the mood of my stories better πŸ™‚

      • I’ll be honest, I do not miss toddlers! But, that being said, it is a tad disconcerting to suddenly have a grow child jump out of the bassinet lol although, the graphics for it can be freaking hilarious! Weren’t babies objects in TS1 or TS2 (sorry, it’s been so long since I last played either of them that I can’t remember lol). I’ve even got used to the lack of colour wheel, and I have to admit, I’m loving how CAS doesn’t stall for half an hour every time I try to change an outfit (although, I have gone a bit freak and downloaded a kak-load of CC lately so that could change!)

Yeah, I can’t imagine your stories in TS4 either, but, I think that could also change as we get new EP’s (Supernatural, Seasons, Ambitions and Generations, please and thank you!). I think as the game is fleshed out more, it might actually even surpass TS3. I prefer the TS4 graphics too (I don’t get why people keep referring to them as “cartoony” when they look more freaking lifelike now than in any previous iteration)

As long as you keep cranking out these amazing stories, it won’t matter if they’re from TS3, TS4 or paper dolls with cut-out clothing πŸ™‚ you’re amazing and you’re stories are too!

      • Toddlers can be freaking difficult, but it just feels so wrong that a baby is just suddenly like… ten years old. Babies were objects in 1, yes. You hardly saw them – they just lay around in a crib and you hardly even saw them. I’m not digging it, so I might not do much family-playing with 4 πŸ˜› There’s also the babies’ cold, lifeless eyes *shudder*

But all in all – yes, love CAS – LOVE the most recent update (When I get Dine Out, there will be a super pink restaurant where all the staff – male and female – will wear dresses!). CAS isn’t too bad for me in 3, ’cause I use MasterController. Still takes time to load, but that’s my fault πŸ˜›

It’s the artstyle that doesn’t fit for me, I think. I do find it cartoony, but I don’t see that as a bad thing – it has a much, much more distinct artstyle and it just has more… personality than 3. I just prefer the slightly more realistic look for my stories. If I were to do another observational style legacy, I might do it in 4 πŸ™‚

I’ll definitely keep doing stories πŸ™‚

  2. me too… I don’t really play any of the other versions once I get started on a new one, even though I think I liked TS3 better than I ever liked TS4 but I still keep playing 4 instead of going back to 3 haha

    • Well, I will say that TS4 runs like a billion times better. I just don’t understand why they turned the babies into what they were back in TS1, why toddlers were left out, and why we couldn’t at least get a colour wheel… Oh well, I say all that, and I still feel drawn to TS4 and it is a bit hard going back to 3’s clunkiness now!

      • True. All of this is true haha it does run better. It’s weird that the toddlers make such a big difference to everyone but I only hear that people want that back, no one seems to like just straight baby to child

      • Well, for me, the toddler thing is because a sim going straight from baby to child is how things were back in ts1. Toddlers have been a thing since 2 and taking it away now is jarring – it makes me feel cheated, and just like taking away the open world, it feels like a step back (and not in a good way). I just feel like a sequel should remove what doesn’t work, add new stuff, and build on the stuff that’s good. In some cases, ts4 has done that – in others, not so much. But that’s just how I feel πŸ™‚ It’s still a great improvement in many ways, and a let-down in others.

      • I agree, there were some let downs, but the rest of the game makes up for it to me lol but then I’m a sims ho πŸ˜‰ and I think getting rid of the open world was actually removing something that didn’t work (I have nightmares about Isla Paridiso and Bridgeport lag) I think the only worlds I didn’t have that with were the smaller ones like Twinbrook and Riverview. Thank the gods for Twallan and Master Controller else my game would have been permanently borked from Generations EP up…

That being said, I know some people who still prefer TS2 over TS3 and TS4 (madness but ok) so it just goes to show that we’re all unique individuals with our own weird and wonderful personalities and quirks πŸ˜€ and I wouldn’t trade any of you for all the tea in China! Luv ya, Lou!

      • Amen sister!
Now they’ve got a new stuff pack but why bother?? You ain’t got toddlers yet and that’s what we want!!

      • I’m just going to go ahead and voice the apparently unpopular view: I am so glad we don’t have toddlers yet! Truth be told, they were cute and all but such a pain in the rear to potty train and all the rest! I was in 7th Heaven when I finally realized they could read to themselves! That being said: I do realize that it’s a bit odd that they go from baby straight to child, but, I don’t really miss it (well, except for the cuteness factor) because really, what could you do with them?!?

      • Still… Cuteness factor lol it’s just I struggle not to kill my sims accidentally already, I can’t imagine throwing a toddler in the mix lol
